Navigating the Business Accounting Software Scene

Author: mbc at 9-05-2012, 08:35, Views: 24

Back in the day, it used to be that if you kept books or if your accountant kept books for you, you basically did it on big fat ledgers. There were receipts and vouchers to keep track of, dozens of columns on every ledger page and so on. When business accounting software first made an appearance a couple of decades ago, small businesses had this way of scoffing at how they would never need anything like this. It was just pencil and paper for them as usual.

These days though, it's far easier and cheaper for any small business to use business accounting software than it would be for them to hire someone to laboriously use the old method (this is is seeming that you could even find anyone willing to do this anymore). But that isn't even just it. Business accounting software can make human error a thing of the past.

It can put all kinds of graphs in front of you at the touch of a button and show you things about how your business is doing that you would never have known otherwise. You can get sales reports for a certain period of time at a moment’s notice, you can see three kinds of graphs for how quickly inventory is moving, it can show you what kinds of things you do that are profitable or not so much, and so on.

If You Don’t Particularly Enjoy Dealing With an IRS Audit

Author: mbc at 9-05-2012, 00:13, Views: 32

The people who are unlucky enough to get a little extra special attention from the IRS – what is it that they do to deserve all the extra love when most tax returns are barely given a glance? What goes on behind a decision at the IRS that there is one particular tax return that must get the special IRS audit treatment?

The thing is, the IRS would happily issue the third degree to every tax return that came in. They make a lot more money this way. The only problem is that they don't have enough people to do the dirty work for them. They are somewhat short-staffed. Only one in a hundred tax return is actually flagged for an IRS audit. But is there some kind of reason why those people get caught instead of everyone else? Well, let's see, shall we?

With only 1% of all taxable public seeing their names come up for an IRS audit, you mustn't really worry about getting caught like it's about to happen tomorrow. If you really, really want to avoid an audit, you need to build a plan to make it happen.

Are Lifeguarding Jobs Any Good?

Author: Rhoden at 4-05-2012, 03:21, Views: 18

When Baywatch aired in the 90s, it really put lifeguarding jobs on the map. What was to not like about being in the sun, with the sand and surf, girls and glamour?

Well, it might surprise you to know that most lifeguarding jobs really aren't that sweet. In fact, employment counseling experts rarely put up a job as a lifeguard as a primary way of supporting yourself. Baywatch’s Mitch Buchannon’s job, apparently, was an exceptional thing if he could support himself, his son (and a wife at some point).

Not everyone though goes to lifeguarding for the income opportunities present therein. People often do it just because they're good at it and because they have what it takes to be a hero.

What you Never Knew About Antique Dealer

Author: Rhoden at 4-05-2012, 01:58, Views: 21

Everyone knows one basic thing when they walk in the door at an antique dealer’s – they're supposed to haggle. They know that the antique dealer doesn't expect to be paid what it says on the sticker. They know they're expected to haggle. But how much are you supposed to haggle?

Any antique dealer will always have two prices – a retail price and a trade price. The trade price, you might well imagine, is the price he'll let something go for, when another antique dealer calls asking for it. Sometimes, they'll let it go of it for the trade price too, when a regular customer or collector comes a-calling.

The mistake first-time buyers make is that they imagine that that special price is only reserved for those people. They never imagine that they could have a chance at it, too. If the antique dealer doesn't know you as a regular customer yet, he may believe that you are serious enough about the whole thing and you may turn into one. And then, he may be open to considering letting go of something at the trade price.

What's the Outlook like in Aircraft Maintenance Jobs

Author: mbc at 26-04-2012, 08:01, Views: 27

How much do you think pilots starting out in their careers make? I was once waiting at a small airport in New York State when there was a flight delay. And the pilot of the plane was sitting right next to me. It was an American Eagle flight. The pilot and I got to talking, and he said that he made $20,000 a year. This was 10 years ago. That's not really what most people imagine life is like for a pilot. In truth though, that's what it's like for anything to do with commercial flying. For instance, consider aircraft maintenance jobs.

For instance, in general, people truly admire how immensely complex the machinery of an aircraft can be. Skilled car mechanics in particular, since they know a lot about engines and mechanics, can really appreciate the true beauty of the mechanics of aircraft. When they are bumping along in their career making perhaps $50,000 a year, they think longingly of how great it could be if they could just apply themselves to learning aircraft maintenance and then applying for a job in that field. They imagine they would make at least twice what they're making working on cars.

That's where they're completely wrong. Aircraft maintenance jobs are hell. No, really. It may be hard to imagine how, but bear with me.

Employment Recruiters-are they really who they say?

Author: mbc at 24-04-2012, 07:16, Views: 5

To look at employment recruiters, people in search of job see them as some kind of powerful job-offering entity. Certainly, employment recruiters deserve to be one part of your job search. You don't want to look upon them as the main source of your leads though.

As survey after survey has shown, the most consistent way of making the score is usually to go in through a referral – an acquaintance referring you. About one out of three jobs are given to people coming in through referrals. Employment recruiters on the other hand are only able to succeed with one out of 20 new recruits.

When you go with employment recruiters, often, it can feel like they are there working for you – to make your dreams come true. In fact, they work for the company that's hiring you. They're not on your side. They want to work your package down so that they can make their steady client – the company – happy enough that they'll be hired the next time.

Treasure your Commute Time-You've been Given the Gift of Time

Author: mbc at 24-04-2012, 07:11, Views: 3

By most accounts, on average, every average American who is gainfully employed spends an hour of his life on commute time everyday. That's just the average though. People who live farther away from home, or ones who get to travel through congested arteries, can end up sitting in their car or bus for much longer. In some parts of the country, say California or New York, a four-hour commute everyday is not uncommon.

It's an outrage that there is all this time that you are devoting to doing something for employer (getting yourself to work) and you aren't even compensated for it. In fact, the gas is on your nickel. Wouldn't it be nice if you could at least use this time you sit in your car to help yourself get ahead in life or something? There are all kinds of products out there that help you make the most of your commute time.

For instance, what if you could take a great class by a world-renowned professor – so that you could learn about the world around you? How about a course in astronomy or understanding the stock market or something? You could always wow people at a company party or the meeting or something, throwing up some kind of great piece of knowledge that you've learned.

How a Sample Job Resume Can Really Help

Author: mbc at 12-04-2012, 08:40, Views: 16

At a time in our country's history where good jobs are at a premium, it is important for those seeking employment to take every advantage they can get. I have found that having a sample job resume as a frame of reference can be really helpful in obtaining employment, especially if one lacks experience in preparing a resume.

A friend of mine who was just finishing up college said he really had no idea what he would do with his life. He had a couple of leads for local businesses that were hiring through some professors at his university, but did not know how to begin to write up a resume. I encouraged him to look online at a sample job resume that I had discovered and try to copy that. I helped him with it, and before long, he had a pretty impressive resume, given his lack of experience.

He went to apply for the job, used his professors as references and presented the resume he had written based on the sample job resume, and he got a job offer. It was not for a great position, but it was entry level, which he expected. The big thing was that he would now have a full time job and a means of supporting himself on his own, which to most young men means the world. He was so grateful to me for helping him that he bought me a Jameson Whiskey gift box with his first paycheck!

Job application tips to get yourself Hired

Author: mbc at 6-04-2012, 07:57, Views: 67

Certainly, there aren't enough jobs to go around for all of us. Nevertheless, some people do manage to consistently get on top of those interviews and to get at those jobs. It happens to thousands of people every day. What is it that these people do that the rest don't? Well, these job application tips should help.

Without a doubt, some job applications get better responses from employers because they list better educational qualifications, better experience and so on. Half the time though, they get better attention from employers because they send out well-written resumes, their interview skills are top-notch and so on.

To be sure, the competition is terrible for what jobs there are. But when young, inexperienced graduates just complain about how there are just no jobs out there, most of the time, they are just experiencing what happens when you don't know how to handle the job application process. Let's start with the job application tips.

When you are a fresh graduate and you're applying for one of your first jobs, you want to pay a lot of attention to that resume. And you don't just want to do it all your own. You want to get input from a couple of experienced people – grown-ups in the family for instance – and what they think. Are there any spelling mistakes? Are there any silly statements that appear careless?
