When you live paycheck to paycheck, the smallest things can throw you off balance. A simple thing like a paycheck arriving three days late could make it difficult for you to make important bills. What happens though if you actually end up losing your job one month and it takes you weeks to find a new one? You may actually fail to make rent and end up on the street. Thankfully, for those who need help paying rent, there are many ways in which help is forthcoming.

The first thing you can do is to talk to your landlord and ask for understanding. Landlords do appreciate how it's hard to find a good, responsible tenant. If you've been a well-behaved tenant for as long as you've been there, he is certain to try to give you extra time. Your landlord may even agree to lower your rent.

If you're finding it hard to hold down a job because of the economy, you can be sure that there are millions of other people just like you out there. Advertise for a roommate. You're sure to find someone who's the same kind of situation that you are in. You may either have to hide it from your landlord by telling him that it's a friend who's living with you, or you have to actually tell you landlord upfront that this is the only way you are able to afford rent.
