Even if you wish you could smoke forever, you realize that if you want to have a good life and you want to have quality at the end of your life, you have to find help to quit smoking. Smokers have shorter lives, even if they never get cancer, and many have trouble drawing breath in the later years of their life. This hardly makes for a fun retirement. There is help out there and there are also things that you can do on your own to ensure that you are giving yourself every chance to quit so that you can be around to meet your grandchildren and even your great-grandchildren.

There are plenty of over-the-counter aids that you can use to help quit smoking. There are gums, which you do not chew so much as crush between your teeth, patches, and electronic cigarettes. The gums are easy to use to stop a craving in the moment. The patch tries to hold you back from smoking while weaning your system from the nicotine over the course of a few weeks or longer if you need it. The electronic cigarette delivers nicotine without the chemicals from the smoke. All of these can help if you use them as directed.

Toy Storage Bins. They can be Far Better an Option than Toy Chests

Author: Rhoden at 9-05-2012, 22:50, Views: 39

How do you take something as mundane as storage bins and make them colorful and adorable? Well, you could try calling them toy storage bins. Right away, the makers of those bins find ways to make them dainty, cute and colorful. Well, that's what the have done.

Traditionally, toy boxes have been wooden. As we all know of course, those boxes can be such an icon of a happy childhood. Those big boxes, beautifully shaped and polished, can contain all those exciting toys in the one corner of the room that they occupy. It can be such a magical place for a child. And yet, they aren't perfect.

For one thing, those boxes aren't really portable. Not in any sense of the term that most people understand. You least need at least two people to pick one of those things up. Wooden toy boxes were wonderful things to have at one time. These days, people prefer something that's lighter. Something that's more practical.

Watching Out Before You Hire Personal Trainers

Author: Rhoden at 9-05-2012, 22:49, Views: 37

Personal trainers ply their trade in an ill-defined space. No one really knows what a personal trainer is supposed to do really; or knows how to prove it when they don't do it well. Personal trainers, basically, are specialists in one thing – getting you to believe that they are health experts of some kind.

Apparently, there are a lot of us who are buying that line. Because about 7 million Americans are signed up with personal trainers. Since a client once signed up can be a real cash cow, personal trainers have been sent into the frenzy of sorts these days, trying to show themselves up to be better than the competition. They will train to specialize in all kinds of things to do with exercise and try to present themselves as extra-qualified for the job.

Often though, what they call “specialized training” is nothing better than a simple weekend course that costs $500 and asks them to sift through a simple online multiple-choice quiz. This can be quite a dangerous thing. When a personal trainer holds himself up to be a specialist in exercise for diabetics, he’d better know what he's doing. Otherwise, a patient of diabetes might easily succumb to vision loss or nerve damage of the feet.

Author: Rhoden at 9-05-2012, 22:48, Views: 44

You know the moment. Your screen is bright blue and there are all types of dire warnings on your screen about date loss and malfunctioning programs. Some people refer to this as the blue screen of death. This is not as common as it once was, but things still happen. Those without virus protection are most vulnerable because viruses that wipe out data, important data, are still out there and they strike every day. Hopefully, if this happens to you, you have your recovery disk for Windows XP and you know how to use it...or them.

When you get a new computer with Windows XP, or perhaps you are buying a used model, you have to make sure the recovery disk for Windows XP is included. In many cases, there may be more than one disk, so make sure they are all there if that is the case. You may take excellent care of any computer you own, but things can go wrong that are out of your control no matter how well you maintain your machine or how good your virus software may be. It is always better to be safe and have the disk on hand in the event you need it.

How Much Do You Really Know About Your Weather Forecaster?

Author: Rhoden at 9-05-2012, 22:45, Views: 44

There used to be a time when the weather people couldn't get the weather right if they looked out the window ahead of time. Meteorology has come so far along now that your weather forecaster can effortlessly nail what the weather will be like three days from now. Unfortunately, our expectations have risen far past that. No longer are we happy to know what it will be like three days from now. We want to know what it'll be like a week from now so that we can plan our weekend. With expectations like that, modern terminology can often seem inaccurate and clunky.

In fact, your weather forecaster can be so off-base for what is to happen a week from now, that he might as well flip a coin.

Now here's something worth noticing about what kind of things your weather forecaster is able to get right and what he gets wrong. They are often not very good at telling when the weather is going to turn bad. If there is a small rainstorm thunderstorm coming up 45 min. from now, they're not really going to be able to tell. Those things are small, fast and unpredictable. It can be hard to tell which way those clouds are going and it can be hard to tell if they'll actually produce rain.

What You Don’t Know About College Prep Advisors

Author: mbc at 9-05-2012, 08:55, Views: 31

It often seems like the competition you need to go up against to get a place at the well-respected college doubles every year. Not only do you need a high grade point average as a high school student, you need to show that you’ve been placed in advanced placement classes and you need to do well in the SATs as well. These days, even that's not enough. You need to show them that there are extracurricular activities you're involved in, that you're involved in the community and so on. It's like the colleges sit down every year and think about what more they could pile on the list to make it ever more torturous. Parents respond to these pressures by hiring college prep advisors for their children.

College prep counselors or advisors don't come cheap either – the Independent Educational Consultants Association quotes prices that start at $100 an hour. The thing is, are you actually getting any value for the money you spend? Or do they merely give you at a high price, advice that you get for free at a high school counselor's office?

Navigating the Business Accounting Software Scene

Author: mbc at 9-05-2012, 08:35, Views: 31

Back in the day, it used to be that if you kept books or if your accountant kept books for you, you basically did it on big fat ledgers. There were receipts and vouchers to keep track of, dozens of columns on every ledger page and so on. When business accounting software first made an appearance a couple of decades ago, small businesses had this way of scoffing at how they would never need anything like this. It was just pencil and paper for them as usual.

These days though, it's far easier and cheaper for any small business to use business accounting software than it would be for them to hire someone to laboriously use the old method (this is is seeming that you could even find anyone willing to do this anymore). But that isn't even just it. Business accounting software can make human error a thing of the past.

It can put all kinds of graphs in front of you at the touch of a button and show you things about how your business is doing that you would never have known otherwise. You can get sales reports for a certain period of time at a moment’s notice, you can see three kinds of graphs for how quickly inventory is moving, it can show you what kinds of things you do that are profitable or not so much, and so on.

What You Wish Eye Doctors Would Tell You

Author: mbc at 9-05-2012, 08:34, Views: 33

For the longest time, we’ve just known about two kinds of eye doctors – the ones who had a degree in optometry and fitted you for glasses, and the ones who had an M.D. and who checked you for eye diseases and gave you eye drops. Well, no longer is it a simple as that anymore. These days, optometrists are licensed to prescribe drugs and even just do eye surgery.

Of course, the MDs don't like any of it. It makes them feel less necessary. They argue that an optometrist hasn't exactly been to med school. Well, all of this just leaves the average person on the street with a big unanswered question about whom to go to.

Well, if you just have a regular checkup in mind or maybe some kind of mild infection on the outside, an optometrist should be just fine. You could check out the websites of the American Academy of Optometry or the American Optometric Association to find a good optometrist in your area.

Learn to Spot the Mythical Hybrid Car Pros and Cons

Author: mbc at 9-05-2012, 08:33, Views: 40

It's hard to really come by anyone who really understands hybrid car pros and cons in a balanced way. Anytime a new technology comes along, it spooks consumers no end. And on the other hand, the overeducated, the foolhardy and the overenthusiastic can go and accept new technologies that eventually mean nothing. They do it just because it makes them look like cool early adopters.

Take hybrid cars for instance. They've been around for years now, and it's pretty clear that their batteries don't fail all that often. And yet, there are lots of people who worry about this before they buy a hybrid. And people who love to preach environmental responsibility will often by a Prius and just be smug and happy that they've done their bit for the environment. They don't care about how those huge battery packs will end up in the landfill.

Well, let's look at a few of these areas of misinformation about hybrid cars.

Designing a Video Game: the Steps Involved

Author: mbc at 9-05-2012, 08:31, Views: 42

If you think about it, the Michael Douglas–Sean Penn movie The Game is about giving the rich and decadent the ultimate videogame-like experience. The movie is about how you can take someone who has a regular life, and put them in fantastic James Bond-Lara Croft like situations where they have horrible things happen to them, but they somehow escape unscathed. Well, designing a videogame is all about putting a person in the kind of situations that Michael Douglas found himself in in the movie. Except that it's all virtual.

It's about taking someone who has a regular life and elevating him to a different plane altogether.

When you come away from playing a game, you're supposed to feel like you've been through an experience – not like you’re just playing a game. Designing a videogame takes a designer who has a spectacular grasp over the nuts and bolts of programming, of design, art and at least a half-dozen other disciplines. It's a wonder that there are as many people out there designing a videogame as there are.

Some Unknown Single Parenting Issues

Author: Rhoden at 9-05-2012, 03:11, Views: 33

Everyone has an idea how hard single parenting can be. Parents in committed relationships can have a hard time with children, but they always have someone to lean on. A single parent does not always have that option and they often find parenting more stressful and challenging than those that have a spouse at home with them. If you are married, enjoy the help that you have and remember that there is always a chance you could find yourself a single parent some day too. Think about some of the single parenting issues your friends and family members may be going through and help them when you can.

One thing that most parents get is a break when their spouse comes home. Children eventually go to bed, but that does not mean that a single parent has time to themselves. One of the biggest single parenting issues that parents of younger children have is having a few quiet moments of sanity to do something that they enjoy without the company of their children. This does not mean they do not love their children. All parents have to have those quiet moments. If you know a single parent, offer to babysit once in a while and insist they go do something for themselves other than chores or errands.

What goes on behind a decision at the IRS that there is one particular tax return that must get the special IRS audit treatment?
