The Jacksonville Jaguars Fans Have Always Impressed Me

Author: mbc at 23-04-2012, 10:29, Views: 4

When the Jacksonville Jaguars first came into existence in the 1990s, I was as curious as anyone as to whether or not they would be able to complete. After reaching the AFC championship game shortly after forming, I was pretty impressed, but even more impressed with the way their fans seemed to support them regardless of how they were playing.

A friend of mine from high school moved to Jacksonville for a job shortly after he graduated. He was there when the team formed, and he instantly became a Jaguars fan. Now, this is a guy that grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and was a die-hard Cowboys fan. He still loved the Cowboys, but he would always comment to me about how he loved the fact that the Jacksonville Jaguars were in the AFC, so he could comfortably root for both teams.

On another occasion, I had a probationer come into my office and he was wearing a Jaguars jacket. I asked him if he was a fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he said that he was. He said he grew up in Florida and grew up watching the Jaguars. What struck me the most was the fact that he loved them as much as I loved the Cowboys. I understand that football is a popular sport throughout the country, but the Cowboys are probably the most recognized NFL franchise in world.

Youth Basketball Was a Sport on Which My Wife and I Could Both Agree

Author: mbc at 23-04-2012, 10:24, Views: 4

When my son started to become physically coordinated and take an interest in sports, my wife and I had a very long discussion about which ones he could play. I was all for wrestling, because I wanted him to take after his old man. She forbid that, saying it was too dangerous. She wanted him to try gymnastics, because that was her sport. I nixed that idea, afraid he would get teased by his friends. After going through every sport known to humankind, we both agreed on youth basketball.

We wanted for our son to get involved in sports, because we loved what sports did for us. It taught us both a sense of fair play and how to work with others; how to sacrifice personal glory for the good of the group and how to be reliable. When youth basketball season rolled around, we talked to our son about the possibility of doing that, and he loved the idea. He also wanted to play peewee football, but he's a Texas boy, so what do you expect?

He got onto a local youth basketball team and immediately fell in love with it. He would spend hours out in the driveway working on his shot and loved going to a local park and taking part in pick-up games. It got to the point where whenever a basketball game was on television, he would be right there watching it, and it did not matter if it was college or the pros. He even asked if we could take him to some high school basketball games to see what the competition was like at that level.

I've Often Wondered Just How Safe Police Bikes Actually Are

Author: mbc at 13-04-2012, 23:21, Views: 32

One of my oldest friends is a police officer. He is a motorcycle cop in a city not far from mine, and he actually started out riding a police bike. While I am all for law enforcement using every available mode of transportation they feel can assist them in addressing criminal behavior as quickly and effectively as possible, I do wonder just how safe police bikes actually are.

I know that regular bikes can be dangerous if you are not a familiar rider. You can lose your balance and fall, the chain can come off and there can be a myriad of other problems. I really don't see how police bikes could be that much safer, and to the contrary, performing the type of work that law enforcement does, it would seem that it could present even more problems.

For instance, what if a person is on foot, fleeing from a police officer on a bike? Let's say that he runs out into traffic, and the police officer has to follow him out into the street. Maybe they are trained to avoid situations where they actually have to go out into traffic, but I would imagine that sometimes instinct takes over and it is hard to stop yourself. I am sure that police officers go through training to remain as safe as possible, even on police bikes, but I still feel concerned when I see it.

Why Ticket Scalping is Unfair

Author: mbc at 9-04-2012, 09:46, Views: 23

Popular musicians have it really hard these days. Of course, their income from music sales have completely collapsed because everyone can just copy music for free now instead of buying it. But the one part of the music business that was always theirs and that was their most profitable of income even when CD sales used to be great – concert performances – these have begun to give way too. Ticket scalping is a big reason why.

Parents have certainly been feeling the pinch. Any Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus concert that their children beg to be allowed to go to, parents have to pay prices that have been raised skyhigh because of unchecked ticket scalping practices that are just allowed to go on. As with any popular event, when tickets go on sale, ticket profiteers buy up as much as they can get their hands on and right away, they put them on the market at twice the price on StubHub or any of a number of other places where these people can put these tickets on sale.

Parents certainly are entitled to complain about how all this is quite unfair. Well, it certainly is an unfair practice, but not for the reason most people seem to think. Ticket scalping is not unfair because it releases ticket prices. If they raise ticket prices, it's because people are willing to pay those prices for the entertainment obtainable with those tickets. The thing is, if the market is able to support those kinds of prices, why aren't the artists themselves selling those tickets at those prices?

Spending as Little on Exercise Bikes as Possible

Author: mbc at 7-03-2012, 07:30, Views: 14

Go to the store for an exercise bike, and the salesman (when he has time to come around) will probably ask you what kind of model you're interested in – upright or recumbent. You will know upright exercise bikes by their upright look – they look like regular bicycles.

People prefer these for the way they allow a full and free range of motion to an exerciser trying to use them. You'll find that you can adopt any kind of position pumping those pedals – you could stand upright on those pedals or crouch down in a racing position.

Recumbent exercise bikes are different – they are like those funny long-distance quadracycles where you lean back in a chair-like seat and pedal with your legs stretched out. If you're someone who has back pain or other kinds of health problems, a recumbent model may be excellent. But some exercise experts feel that an easy chair-like position doesn't really encourage hard work in anyone.

Things You Never Knew about College Football Teams and Scholarships

Author: Rhoden at 19-01-2012, 21:55, Views: 68

If you've ever been to a top college football game or even been in a town where there was the top football team playing, you'd know how much money these can pull in. Turning to a Basketball Strength Training Routine to Grow in your Sport

Author: mbc at 14-01-2012, 19:39, Views: 49

A good part of learning the art and skill of basketball of course, comes down to the sheer amount of practice you put in. As much as you practice the skill, the polish and your on-court wiliness, you do need a certain amount of sheer strength and stamina to be able to ram all this down on your opponents and actually get results. That's the reason basketball strength training today is an integral part of the basic training that basketball teams, both major and minor around the country today, have adopted.

You mustn't think that in basketball, the only thing you need strength training for is when you are a power forward or a center. Strength is a great asset to be able to call on when you're a guard, too.

Remember how Michael Jordan at one point said that he just needed better physical strength to be able to take the kind of attacking playing style that some other teams were using? Well, if you're somewhat convinced now that in basketball, strength training is just as important as skill, here are your training tips.
