Adult and Community Education Serves an Important Role

Author: Rhoden at 4-03-2012, 09:19, Views: 8

While high schools and colleges are crucial to providing a quality education to students, adult and community education also serves an important role that I have seen play out almost every day of my life in my career as a probation officer.

In my line of work, I get the opportunity to see how education affects people and how it can also be a great stumbling block for probationers' job prospects. I am in contact with a number of adult and community education programs because I know what an important service they provide and how much they can help people who really need to improve themselves.

On of the adult and community education organizations that I regularly work with allows people to obtain their GED and has connections with job placement services. It also works with a variety of colleges and trade schools that those who want to pursue an even higher degree can take advantage of, and the results have been phenomenal.

Why I Prefer Adult and Continuing Education Courses

Author: Rhoden at 3-03-2012, 09:21, Views: 15

After I completed my college education, I discovered that there were a few other courses that I still wanted to take and looked into a local community college. While I found that there were traditional classes available, I found that I preferred the adult and continuing education courses more for a couple of reasons.

One of the biggest reasons I like adult and continuing education courses is because I am in there entirely with other adults. This is not meant to be a shot at young people, but sometimes it feels a little awkward when you are the only one in the class in your 30s and everyone else is in their late teens or early 20s. I know that on a couple of occasions, I have had one of my fellow classmates in traditional classes call me “sir,” which, while certainly respectful, can be a little uncomfortable at the same time.

Then there is the fact that with adult and continuing education courses, you know that the people actually want to be there. In traditional classes, one can tell the students that don't really want to be there because they will bring things to class to distract themselves, such as iPhones or reading material, or they will just flat out socialize while the instructor is lecturing. I always find myself getting irritated when I see this sort of thing happen.

Author: Rhoden at 22-02-2012, 21:13, Views: 48

If you are a registered nurse, you really could improve your prospects for the future by picking up a nurse practitioner education. Is it worth the Master’s degree you have to master to become a nurse practitioner? Let's check this out a little bit more.

A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse-like medical professional, except that she has been to school some more and obtained a highly specialized kind of graduate degree. A medical professional of this kind is authorized to diagnose certain kinds of diseases and offer treatments for them. They may also order tests and lab work and read results.

If you're wondering where exactly these nurse practitioners work, or if it's such a good idea to accept treatment from one, perhaps you just don't recognize who they are. Most of the time, they work at hospitals taking the place of doctors who are late coming into work or who are busy for some reason on a given day. Someone in the hospital with nurse practitioner education can just simply take over.
